On Thursday, April 28th, Blue Heron Financial Group provided lunch and dinner for about 125 healthcare workers at Pathways and McNew Family Medical Center in Annapolis. Margie said, “The need for attention and understanding to mental health is greater than ever. We just wanted to let those working in the field know their work is so appreciated.

2019 & 2020

In 2019 the Blue Heron Matching Charitable contribution program was instituted to promote giving back to our communities. Each employee was encouraged to choose an entity that meant something special to them. They were then asked to share with the team why and how their charity of choice was making a positive difference in the world.

Liz: Katherine Mueller Fund is more than just a charity to me, it is family.  Our cousin Katherine Mueller was diagnosed before she was even 30 years old with a rare form of cancer called NET (Neuroendocrine Tumors), specifically starting on her Pancreas.  Katherine did not wallow in her diagnosis, but instead jumped in with both feet fighting for healing for herself, but really aspiring to help others by raising significant funds for research specific to pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors.  My prayer is these funds and the research will benefit Katherine and lead to a CURE for this type of cancer (which is currently only "treatable," not curable) and save so many lives and families for years to come.

Alison: Everyone's Child is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of orphaned and impoverished children around the world.  Their mission reaches out to children of the world to educate where there are no schools, to care where there is great need, and to connect where there is isolation.  Through partnerships with local leaders and citizens, this program participates in building self-sustaining schools in developing nations that support community development, access to quality education, and a better life.  They believe if you give a child a meal you feed them for a day but if you give a child an education, you feed them for life.

Steve: My faith is very important to me and Young Life helped me build and solidify my faith in many ways.  Young Life is an evangelical Christian ministry that focuses on reaching middle school, high school, and college-aged youths.  The ministry is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado and works in all fifty states as well as ninety-eight countries with the help of 35,000 volunteer leaders.  What makes Young Life special is the focus on relationships.  The leaders walk alongside students and mentor them instead of simply preaching to them.  Leaders show up at high school football games, dance shows, events, competitions, practices, lunch at school, or even just Starbucks to grab coffee and chat.  In Anne Arundel County, Young Life reaches up to 500 middle and high school students annually.

Margie: “The Big Idea at The Well is loving people”
We believe in second chances, finding dignity, and a path for a woman to rebuild her life. In the center of one of Baltimore's toughest neighborhoods is a community of women—each on our own journey of healing. We have survived lives of trauma: sexual exploitation, poverty, abuse, and addiction. Together, we are The Well. We are committed to changing the odds for each woman who walks through our door. We are committed to changing our community. And we believe in a world full of amazing people who want to help.

Sarah: Back on My Feet, a national organization operating in 14 major cities across the US, combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, essential employment, and housing resources. Back on My Feet seeks to revolutionize the way society approaches homelessness. Their unique model demonstrates that if you first restore confidence, strength and self-esteem, individuals are better equipped to tackle the road ahead. For all in need, they aim to provide: practical training and employment resources for achieving independence; an environment that promotes accountability; and a community that offers compassion and hope.

Debbie: Children's National Health System Washington DC, Precious Cargo- Transport Team - We have a family member who has been a nurse at Children's Hospital for 5 years.  We are proud to support their dedication to children, families, and our surrounding community.  Thank you, Blue Heron for helping us to help them keep children safe and well.

The Stephanie Bloom Memorial Scholarship Fund - Jacksonville University lost a talented young member of our community, Stephanie Bloom, on Sunday August 19, 2018. To honor her legacy and love for Nursing Education, her family has created The Stephanie Bloom Memorial Scholarship Fund. All gifts will directly support scholarships for graduate students in the Keigwin School of Nursing. This is where our daughter received her BSN RN and we had the honor of knowing and being served by Stephanie Bloom at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville FL.  She was a wonderful person- wife, mother, graduate of JU, guidance counselor, and believer in good. Stephanie helped our daughter bloom!
